Proceeding clockwise around the circle, the dice with the 6's and 2's on it, called the 6-2, will beat the 5-1, the next in the circle, which in turn beats 4-0, which beats 3-3... WHICH IN TURN BEATS 6-2! Your advantage is that you will win 24 times out of 36 - that is 2 times out of 3, or a 66% advantage. So whichever dice your opponent selects - and asking someone to choose first is part of the strategy - you take the next dice backwards in the circle.

Many are those whom I would like to acknowledge in this section. In fact, it would be more prudent to try to list those which I would not like to acknowledge. However, I am a traditionalist and as such will adhere to the custom of naming those to be recognized.

To start, my family must be thanked. I know that by no means have I ever appeared to be the best of students, but I wanted to apologize greatly, you have helped me out a lot by allowing me to make up the exams. I am sure by the time you read this you will have already looked at my test and noted the abysmal grade it will receive. I know that this may seem odd to ask but I really need a decent grade in you class (though i know i have shown no evidence of the sort). I was wondering if I would appeal to you, to allow me to take my final grade on monday and use it to replace this test grade... I will be making an A on the final. (I can't afford not to)

The greatest trick I've pulled... so far

Convincing an accredited institution of higher learning that I deserved a Master's degree. If I can similarly bamboozle my way to a doctorate it will be the stuff of scheister legend.

Happy Pi Day!

Because Pi is 3.14, you see. I hope math enthusiasts everywhere are having a great day. I will celebrate it the only way I know how, and I hope all of you will do the same. On that note, here's a little something to further diminish your faith in humanity:

It happened in Indiana. Although the attempt to legislate pi was ultimately unsuccessful, it did come pretty close. In 1897 Representative T.I. Record of Posen county introduced House Bill #246 in the Indiana House of Representatives. The bill, based on the work of a physician and amateur mathematician named Edward J. Goodwin (Edwin in some accounts), suggests not one but three numbers for pi, among them 3.2, as we shall see. The punishment for unbelievers I have not been able to learn, but I place no credence in the rumor that you had to spend the rest of your natural life in Indiana.

Just as people today have a hard time accepting the idea that the speed of light is the speed limit of the universe, Goodwin and Record apparently couldn't handle the fact that pi was not a rational number. "Since the rule in present use [presumably pi equals 3.14159...] fails to work ..., it should be discarded as wholly wanting and misleading in the practical applications," the bill declared.

I am glad that Congress has figured out how to fix the war, recession, continued existence of Dancing with the Stars, etc, so they've got time to get in on the act. From Politico:

“It makes you realize how consequential you really are,” Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.) said with a smile.

Oh, fine, fine. Good to have that sorted out.
