Ok here's what I don't get. Alabama has seven pretty legit consensus national titles. That is amazing and impressive, and it's way more than Auburn or Tennessee have (the U of A's two big rivals). Why not just go with that? Changing that would have absolutely no negative impact on the popular image of Alabama's football history, or its relative merits as an all-time football program, etc etc.
